TEETH WHITENING

Over time our teeth can take some real punishment being stained from coffee, cigarettes, tea, age, or maybe your just not happy with the color of your teeth.  A teeth whitening solution from Highland Creek Dental may be just what your looking for.  As the most popular and conservative form of cosmetic dentistry, teeth whitening is an affordable and easy way to make your smile shine.  Highland Creek Dental offers several teeth whitening treatments, including the 20 minute in-office Iveri system® teeth-whitening and convenient take-home whitening kits.

Why Iveri?

The Iveri revolutionary teeth whitening gel consists of a solution that is safe for even the most sensitive of teeth. Carbamide Peroxide is an oxidizing agent most commonly used in whitening products. Iveri Whitening uses a concentrated blend of professional strength Carbamide Peroxide and Hydrogen Peroxide to deliver whitening results quickly. Potassium Nitrate, a key ingredient in Iveri Whitening gel, has been proven to virtually eliminate teeth sensitivity. And unlike other teeth whitening products, our gel uses Xylitol which not only sweetens the solution but more notably keeps your teeth hydrated throughout the whitening process.

In 20 minutes you will notice your teeth become 2-8 shades whiter. Now that’s something to smile about!

What is teeth whitening?

Tooth whitening is the process by which the discolorations of the enamel caused by age, coffee, tea, smoking and other staining agents are lightened.

How long will it last?

This will depend on the patient, and the patient’s oral habits. Rinsing or flushing with water after stain causing drinks is one way to help.  Speak with the dentist to get the most longevity from your whitening.  The average person will require periodic touch ups once or twice a year.

Is the treatment safe?

Yes. Clinical studies have shown that bleaching under the supervision of a dental professional is safe for teeth and gums. Your dental professional will advise you on how to use the take home kits.

How white will my teeth get?

Everyone’s teeth are different so results can vary. If your teeth are heavily stained from coffee or smoking, you will probably see a big change… If your teeth are not heavily stained, the change will not be as great.

Are there any side effects?

For the majority of patients there are none. However, some will experience temporary sensitivity (dull or sharp) on the teeth and/or gums. This will subside after several hours of stopping the treatment. The wear times can be shortened or made less frequent or a topical desensitizing toothpaste, rinse or gel can be used. Abstain from carbonated drinks, citrus foods and beverages to avoid sensitivity for a few hours after treatment.

The active ingredient in the process is hydrogen peroxide which breaks down to water and oxygen. Dental professionals have been using hydrogen peroxide for over 50 years to whiten teeth successfully.

Will my crowns, veneers and fillings get whiter?

No, only your natural teeth will.

Steps that your dental professional will perform on your teeth:

  • Take and record the shade of your teeth.
  • Clean your teeth.
  • A resin barrier is applied to the gum areas surrounding the teeth to protect your gums from coming into contact with the peroxide gel.
  • A hydrogen peroxide gel is applied to each tooth.
  • A special dental light shines on the teeth for 8-10 minutes (optional).
  • The gel is removed from your teeth using suction.
  • Your dental professional will repeat Steps 3-5 about 2 to 3 more times.
  • You will be asked to look in the mirror at your whiter and brighter teeth.
